Ministry of Labour & Employment and Zepto Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Youth Employment on NCS Portal
New Delhi, [Date of Release] – In a significant move to bridge the gap between India’s youth and emerging opportunities in the platform economy, the Ministry of Labour & Employment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zepto, the quick-commerce platform. The signing ceremony was held today in the presence of the Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
This collaboration is designed to enhance employment opportunities and youth employability by leveraging the National Career Service (NCS) Portal. As part of the agreement, Zepto has committed to posting 10,000 job vacancies on the NCS platform, creating a structured pipeline for urban employment, particularly for youth, women, and first-time job seekers.
In his keynote address, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the NCS platform’s pivotal role as a bridge between employers and job seekers. “The National Career Service platform has emerged as a unique bridge between employers and job-seekers,” stated Dr. Mandaviya. “With over 52 lakh registered employers and nearly 7.5 crore vacancies mobilized since inception, NCS has positioned itself as a one-stop solution for all employment-related services.” He further added that the ongoing strengthening of the NCS portal with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital tools would enable job-seekers to find opportunities tailored to their qualifications and location.
The Minister emphasized that this partnership will open a new window of opportunity for young people while allowing Zepto to connect with a vast, suitable talent pool.
Ms. Vandana Gurnani, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, underscored the MoU’s role in advancing formalization and social security. She outlined the NCS portal’s comprehensive services, including job-matching, career counselling, and skilling. “This partnership will pave the way for generating secure, long-term, and quality employment,” Ms. Gurnani stated.
Echoing the sentiment, Shri Kaivalya Vohra, Co-founder of Zepto, said, “We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Labour & Employment to integrate with the NCS portal. This collaboration is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and skilled workforce for the new-age economy. By connecting with NCS, we aim to provide thousands of gig and full-time opportunities, helping to empower India’s youth.”
Key Strategic Impacts of the MoU:
- Formalization of Platform Work: The partnership creates a structured bridge to formalize gig workers by linking them with e-Shram registration and various social security schemes.
- Structured Employment Pipeline: Zepto’s 10,000 job postings will provide predictable employment opportunities within the quick-commerce sector.
- Upskilling and Future Employability: The integration connects workers with skilling and career counselling services available on the NCS platform, enhancing their long-term employability.
- Tech-Driven Livelihoods: This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s mission to foster dignified, tech-driven livelihoods and integrate gig economy roles into the formal employment ecosystem.
This MoU with Zepto is part of the Ministry’s ongoing series of collaborations with key players in the platform economy, including Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido, and Quikr Jobs. To date, these partnerships have successfully mobilized close to five lakh vacancies on the NCS portal, significantly bolstering employment avenues for the nation’s youth.
